Note to self::

Stop wasting time on the computer and go straight to sleep.
( It was just 11 pm) I blinked and now it's 12:13.

Inspired by this. But obviously not even close to a grain of the wise poetic words he captured.
( when will I learn?)

The irony is I am spending more time on the computer typing this...

This was originally meant to be a one liner!

I need serious help.

Goodnight!

Added Part::

So I guess you all noticed my earlier typo and were kind enough "note" to say anything (Hee hee..get it?). In my defense I was pretty exhausted last night...
So Note to self: Don't blog when you're cross eyed and tired.
Title fixed, no worries!
Peace

New Dryer!

Yes, It's true! Our land lord who luckily also happens to be our next door neighbor saw our line of air drying laundry and felt sorry for us! So he decided to order the dryer earlier than scheduled ( what a good man). The Dryer arrived about two days ago. But since we have been so behind on laundry we had to prioritize. So my sad and lonely new fabric sat two more days waiting. Until this afternoon...

I couldn't wait, as soon as our fantastic, super fast, new dryer, buzzed the end signal, I jumped...

The result, a new pseudo finished new Mei skirt with my new super cute Japanese fabric (bought for half price at a going out of business sale, woohoo!)

I used the lazy skirt free pattern found on the oliver + s blog. The pattern uses a ribbon to finish the hem but I didn't have a wide ribbon on hand. So instead I used lace I had bought also on super sale. I was pretty pleased with the final look.

The skirt is actually not completely finished, I still need to buy elastic. So to show the end result I just fed the waistband casing with a ribbon and pulled it through (hence the term pseudo finished). My sweet girl will have to wait to wear this skirt until her mama is not so lazy... Sorry sweet pea!

I have to go sleep now, it's 1:30 am and tomorrow ( technically today) is mother's day.
Happy mother's day everyone!

Peace:)

I love spring!

Behold there's going to be lots of photos in this one...

Marge Simpson Giant Plants ( As called by my observant other half)

Eroded riverbank showing off some serious giant tree roots.

All I want is a book and to be left alone on that inviting bench.

Sunshine. The perfect Breeze. Seventy degree, bug free weather. Naturally results in the fastest out of the door time we ever made as a family! And a great place to be at for this kind of weather... The Botanic Gardens, which we are officially members of as of today ( Woohoo!)
And I couldn't resist sharing some eye candy with the rest of you:)
Yes the last photo is more bread shared by loved ones. And I really need to get my hands on this book. Seriously!

Cheers!

Also Peace...

A visit...

Akhh!*banging my hand on my forehead* the laundromat! Now why didn't I think of that? Thank you for your comments and emails about my sewing and bread making questions, everyone.

***

Today was a very productive day indeed. We finally managed to visit the social security office to get me a new card and we actually didn't forget any papers. So hopefully I'll be getting a new card in the mail within two weeks( inshaAllah) , and hopefully my license right after ( we'll see! Hmph!).

Some quick reflections about American Vs Egyptian Government facilities::

In an American government facility you Can...

Walk in the government building without being shoved by hordes of people.
Believe what the security guard tells you.( where to get a paper with a number to be called)
Just sit there for thirty minutes and actually have a chance to get bored until your number gets called.
See some funky dude walk in blasting his i pod in his ears that it actually gets too loud even for people seated at the very opposite end from him ( us).
Watch an interesting guy borrow a cell phone from a nice old man to try and buy his sister (who has three kids by the way) a dog, because he thinks she doesn't have enough .... to clean. He was pretty loud, even from behind glass doors (cell phone use is prohibited in government facilities, and yes Americans actually do follow rules most of the time!)

You Can't...

Get a decent cup of tea ( or for that matter any cup of tea) while you wait.
Give some random guy ten Egyptian pounds ( about 2 dollars) to run back and forth from one building to the other and do all your paper work for you, as you sit and wait with a nice ice cold bottle of coca cola. ( true story!)
Kill time by running back and forth from one desk, building, street and neighborhood to the other while trying to figure out where in the world you should go to get this paper signed!
Watch other people loosing it and yelling at some poor government employee.
Watch women government employees chopping off vegetables behind their desks to take back home for supper ( talk about multitasking!).
Go back home at the end of the day with nothing done and tears in your eyes ( also a true story)

The one thing they might have truly needed in the American office is some sort of speaker phone. You could barely hear your number, and naturally since it's the social security office a lot of people in there needed to be spoken up to.

Egyptians love their microphones, so we definitely wouldn't be having any shortage in that department. No. Thank you very much!

Peace:)

I've got the itch...

...So the dryer is broke as you've all heard, and I have the itch to sew. But all the fabric I have now needs to be washed and preshrunk before I can start any project. Which means I have to wait until we get a new dryer, since air drying doesn't shrink the fabric... Bummer!
So right now I am reading these books, and dreaming about several beginners projects. (If you know me well enough, you'll know that patience is NOT one of my virtues. Hence the struggle. AUGH! )

On another note, I also discovered how great homemade bread tastes like, and if you've ever made homemade bread before you'll know exactly what I'm talking about... Store bought bread sucks compared to the REAL stuff... Man was I in the dark! In the beginning I almost swore to myself to never ever buy store bread ever again. but then I remembered how I have two babies under 3 and we eat a ton of bread in our household( what can I say we love sandwiches). So I revised my oath and decided on making homemade bread and bagels whenever I get the chance. ( never?!)

So now I have the itch to sew, the itch to bake and the itch to read about both... But unfortunately there isn't enough time. What did I do with all the time I had when I was baby-less and single?... Dang!

Related questions:

If I start making homemade bread do I need to buy flour in bulk?
If so, where can I buy it from?
Also anymore tips on both subjects are much appreciated.

Peace.

Highlights of the week::

I gave the babysitter a week off and I'm experimenting with handling both girls on my own with no two hour breaks from the babysitter. So last Wednesday was our first trip to the library all three of us on our own. It worked well all praise to god::Home made cupcakes for the class in celebration of my husband's last day in school:: A delicious lentil veggie dish that I am really digging at the moment and yes I'll share the recipe soon inshaAllah (god willing):: My first attempt at homemade sandwich bread altered from this book (I substituted one cup of rye flour instead of all purpose flour, and added fennel seeds and sunflower seeds, Fantabulous!)::Our dryer broke just in time for spring so we're forced to be green and happy about it, sorta!( we'll be out of a dryer for a whole month! Help!) It does rain a lot in this part of the country. Four people ( 2 of which wear about three outfits a day) plus cloth diapers... you do the math!

Have a wonderful weekend.

Peace.
